WordPress Content Moderation

Moderate WordPress comments in real time. The Paxmod plugin checks every new comment against your project's policy and holds, spams, or trashes anything that violates it, so hate, harassment, and toxic spam never hit your site.

Works with Akismet, not against it

Akismet handles spam. Paxmod handles toxicity, harassment, sexual content, and your custom policy, and runs after Akismet so the two never fight.

WordPress setup checklist

  • • Install and activate the Paxmod plugin
  • • Paste your API key under Settings → Paxmod
  • • Pick a flag action: hold, spam, or trash
  • • Trusted commenters are skipped automatically
  • • Fails open, so an API blip never blocks comments

What Paxmod catches that Akismet misses

Spam filters look for spam. Paxmod reads the meaning of a comment and enforces the policy you define in plain English, so you decide exactly what does not belong on your site.

View API docs

Hate, harassment & threats

Flag abusive comments that read as clean text to a keyword filter but clearly violate your policy.

Sexual content, self-harm & PII

Catch categories a spam filter was never built to see, and route them to the queue you choose.

Your own custom policy

Describe what you want blocked in plain English in the Paxmod console; the plugin enforces it on every comment.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to know how to code to use the WordPress plugin?

No. Install the plugin from the WordPress directory, paste your Paxmod API key under Settings → Paxmod, and pick what should happen to flagged comments. There is no code to write.

What does Paxmod catch that Akismet does not?

Akismet is built for spam. Paxmod reads the meaning of a comment and flags hate, harassment, threats, sexual content, self-harm, violence, and PII, plus any custom policy you write in plain English in the Paxmod console. A comment can be spam-free and still violate your policy; Paxmod catches those.

Does the plugin replace Akismet?

No, it complements it. Akismet handles spam and Paxmod handles toxicity, harassment, and custom policy. Paxmod runs after Akismet, so the two never conflict, and you can run both at once.

What happens to comments if the Paxmod API is unreachable?

The plugin fails open. If the API times out or errors, comments follow WordPress's normal rules, so a hiccup on our side never blocks your commenters or breaks your site.

Will it slow down my comment section?

No. A moderation check returns in roughly 500ms and only runs on new comments. Commenters WordPress already trusts (previously approved authors) are skipped automatically.

Is there a free tier, and how much does it cost after that?

Yes. Paxmod has a free tier with no credit card. Beyond that, pricing is usage-based from $0.25 per 1,000 messages, so a normal blog's comment volume costs very little.
