Roblox Chat Moderation API

Paxmod sits on top of Roblox's mandatory TextFilter. We detect grooming patterns, PII sharing, and custom policy violations in real time. Use the server module or REST API to add an extra safety layer for younger audiences.

Complements Roblox's required filter

Paxmod does not replace Roblox TextFilter or TextChatService. Keep running Roblox's filter for display. Paxmod adds grooming detection, custom policy enforcement, and trust and safety logging.

Roblox integration checklist

  • • Enable HTTP requests in Game Settings
  • • Add PAXMOD_API_KEY to Creator Hub Secrets
  • • Drop the server module into ServerScriptService
  • • Call Paxmod.moderate() from server scripts
  • • Log flagged results for T&S review or auto-action
COPPA moderation features

Install & authenticate

Add the Paxmod module to ServerScriptService and configure your API key in Creator Hub Secrets.

Layer on Roblox filter

Call Paxmod from server scripts after Roblox's TextFilter. We detect grooming, PII, and custom policy violations that pass through the baseline filter.

Enforce policies

Check result.flagged to warn, mute, or log for trust and safety review. Fail-open design means players aren't blocked if the API is unreachable.

Server module installation

The Paxmod Lua module makes HTTP calls to your Paxmod project from Roblox server scripts. It returns flagged status, reason, and category so you can decide whether to warn, mute, or escalate.

Setup steps

  1. Enable HTTP requests: Game Settings → Security → Allow HTTP Requests: ON
  2. Add your API key as a secret: Creator Hub → your experience → Secrets → add PAXMOD_API_KEY with your key from the console
  3. Install the module: Download Paxmod.lua from the repo and place it in ServerScriptService
  4. Require and call: From a server Script, require the module and call moderate()

Example usage

local Paxmod = require(game.ServerScriptService.Paxmod)

-- After running Roblox's TextFilter:
local result = Paxmod.moderate(text, player.UserId, "global-chat")

if result and result.flagged then
-- Flagged by Paxmod: warn, mute, or log for review
    warn("Flagged:", result.reason, result.category)
    -- Your enforcement logic here
else
-- Passed Paxmod checks: allow the message
end

The module fails open: if the API is unreachable, result is nil and the message is allowed. This keeps gameplay smooth even if Paxmod has a brief outage.
